Upon discovering this genuinely old hutch, thoughts of pioneer days and the harshness of everyday life came to mind. It is built from roughly dressed timber and the grain has been worn smooth by everyday interactions in high traffic areas. As we always state, we are not timber experts, but it looks very much like cypress or pine. There's a faint green still evident from the day it was first painted. Unlike other old treasures, this piece has only been painted once.
The top lifts off, making moving very easy- a bit of salvage work was undertaken here. It does have new hinges on the rhs door- it was completely broken off. Despite much repair and many hours of sympathetic cleaning, a heavy application of Jolie Clear wax, the overall finish is authentically original and raw. Inspection is most welcome in order to enjoy the historical charm in its entirety.
Dimensions: Base 110cm high x 63cm deep x 122cm wide. Entire piece 168cm high x 67cm deep x 122cm wide.
