Most likely constructed from cedar, this rare early tapered travel trunk has ample charm.
It carries years of stories from it's owners and it's travels through the details found on it's surface.
A detailed and stylised illustratrion can be found on the trunk interior. Key symbols within the illustration depict a connection to English naval days. The shadows beneath the top layers of paint suggest that the painting has had several iterations over its life. On the exterior, a destintaion label partially remains (we think this could be of 20th Century times), destination being Geelong to Ballarat.
Copper nails/tacks and original twisted rope and twine handles remain.
There is evidence of repair from the distant past- the hinges have been relocated and bevel edged batons added to the trunk lid.
Original tin lining on the interior base.
